I was a bit lost after I successfully replaced the battery in my Korg M1. But after I found the link to Voice Crystal on The Korg M1 source and traded e-mail with the author of the site, I decided to go ahead and order the $50 factory patch ROM card rather than try to go the sysex route.
The card took just a couple of days to arrive, and included instructions. All in all, the process took about two minutes, and the M1 was back to its old self after sitting in my closet for several years and almost getting pitched on more than one occasion. All you have to do is disable the internal program and combi memory protect, then load the data from the card (full instructions available on page 119 of the M1 manual, "Load from Card."). So next time the battery dies in ten years or whatever, I'll be good to go.
I'm going to start using the M1 when I practice with the band that I'm doing some work with. It's great to have it back!

Thank you so much for the info on the Korg M1 battery replacement. My old M1ex needs one; I want to start playing it again. I did the sysex thing via my old Mac clone about 3 years ago, but never got everything straightened out. Now I'm determined, Thanks again! Holly
Holly, that's great to hear! Let us know if you get it going! - Charlie
