Brian Wilson Concert
Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 6:20PM We made it down to Atlanta on Saturday for the Brian Wilson concert at Chastain Park. Anyone who knows me at all knows that I am not a fan of Atlanta, but I gotta say that Chastain Park is the best. There isn't anything in Charlotte that compares. Chastain is an intimate outdoor venue that seats about 6500 in what feels like the middle of a forest. They let you bring food and wine into the show, and you can just sort of spread out and enjoy yourself.
The concert was great. SMiLE is relatively short, but it was absolutely amazing to hear it performed live in its entirety. I am so stuck on the SMiLE CD that I can't seem to listen to anything else seriously. At first, I wasn't sure that I liked it so much because the song structure is so loose, but now it's becoming clear that it will be one of those CDs that sticks with me for the long term.
The more I read about it, the more respect I have for Wondermints keyboardist Darian Sahanaja, who I understand contributed to making SMiLE the cohesive piece that it is. I think I will have to check out some Wondermints as I've only heard them with Brian Wilson.
