Annoyware
Monday, November 8, 2004 at 5:02PM I can't stand paid commercial software that morphs into nagware over time. I use Microsoft Money 2004 to manage finances. I guess the 2005 version must be out now, because Money has picked up this annoying habit of putting these two shortcuts on my desktop every time I open the program: Great offers from BankOne, and $50 Bonus, ING Direct. I doubt that it's the intended effect, but I'm starting to hate those two companies.

MusicMatch Jukebox has gotten pretty annoying too. I have a paid version of MusicMatch that came with my iPod. Now, whenever I open MusicMatch Jukebox 8.2 - which I do with decreasing frequency - I get this annoying dialog telling me my key is no longer valid and I have to upgrade. WTF? Where's the Don't Remind Me checkbox?
Anybody know where I can find a registry hack to put an end to this ridiculous crap?
UPDATE: To turn off these stupid advertising desktop icons in Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe, on the Tools menu, click Options. On the General tab, check Turn off sponsorship and shopping links. Not exactly obvious, but hey. At least it's there.
