From the Queue: The Fog of War
Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 6:26PM Just finished The Fog of War. Excellent, and a bit of a departure from Vernon, Florida. It completely changed my opinion of Robert S. McNamera, who I had previously considered a ghoulish sort who bore much of the responsibility for Vietnam. Now LBJ fills that role for me. Of course, McNamera - who I had thought was dead - puts a bit of his own spin on events, but i found him to be a largely credible narrator on the subjects he selectively chose to reveal. The man bears an incredible weight on his shoulders.
The film has strong reverberations to our current situation, and I for one see a lot of similarity between LBJ and George W., our cowboy presidents.
It also made we want to go back and watch Thirteen Days again. Everytime I think I sort of understand exactly what happened with the Cuban Missle Crisis, I think I forget it all within a couple of hours. Thank God Hollywood is around to occasionally fill the void.
