To the Extreme I Rock...Oh, Never Mind
Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 6:16PM After much deliberation, I finally broke down last month and got a Korg Triton Extreme synthesizer. I had been out of synths and sequencing for quite a few years. My last purchase was a Korg M1. A few of the keys broke on it and the battery died, but that has to be expected if you spill beer directly into the keyboard.
So far, I am very happy with the Extreme, despite its name. I have a feeling it will take me years to completely explore what all it can do. I am still wondering what kind of software I need, though...SONAR, ProTools MBox, both, what? I know the answer is probably "It depends." The music I want to make is a blend of traditional and electronic timbres, along the lines of Eels or Flaming Lips.
I've had this thing for several weeks and despite all the cool techno and classic synth patches, I find myself mostly playing the Bosendorfer piano and Wulitzer patches. And I have a piano. Must be the lounge guy in me. Plus, the weighted keys on the Blue Meanie have better action than my piano.
