Blankets

Our book club meets this Sunday. For the first time - and we've been around for about a year - we read a graphic novel. Some of you may know this as a comic book. I read Ghost World a few years ago after seeing the movie. This one, Blankets, was longer and ultimately more satisfying.

I was a little intimidated by the size of Blankets, but found that it was a very quick read. I was just wondering why graphic novels lend themselves so well to being filmed - I guess it cuts out the step of storyboarding.

The other thing the book club is doing for the first time is, everyone who wants to is coming up with the first sentence of a short story. We're going to swap sentences and see what we come up with. Feels a little like homework, but I'm game. I haven't done any real writing in too long.

I'll let you know what I come up with.
