Is Pro Tools a Sequencer?

Last night there was a Pro Tools demo at the local Sam Ash. It was largely a sales job to show off some of the new bundling packages that Digidesign is making available, but I have been hearing about Pro Tools for a long time and never actually seen it in action. I was pretty much blown away. As far as digital audio recording, I completely understand why it has become the audio equivelent of Photoshop. Some of the integration features with Reason and Ableton Live were incredibly impressive.

What I don't completely understand, though, is whether Pro Tools is a sequencer. Do I need to combine it with something like SONAR or does it include sequencing capabilities?

With the MBox priced in the $450 range, it's amazing that all this power is available to home users. Combining this with the Triton Extreme should keep me pretty busy. I'm pretty certain that I will purchase it at some point, but I am curious as to whether I need additional sequencing software. Hope not.

hey, charlie. kelly says: " go Pro Tools, fuck SONAR." that means that yes, it does have sequencing abilities. he has Cool Edit Pro, which he says is more user-friendly. he says Cool Edit Pro 2000 is the best.
that's all; i knew that kelly would know about that because he's a music tech junkie like you.

Hey thanks for visiting my site!
For sequencing I'm pretty happy with Reason although it does not handle audio files, so I might be switching to Logic (when I earn more money).
But I totally agree with you that Pro Tools is the Photoshop of audio. It's the industry standard.
