New Wilco Disappointing

1 Comment Someone lent me an early copy of the new Wilco CD A Ghost is Born, and I have to say I am underwhelmed.
I followed with great interest the saga of the making of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and in my mind I built it up to be something that it wasn't. I loved "Heavy Metal Drummer," but that was about it. It almost made me see the perspective of the guys at Warners who told Jeff Tweedy to come back when he had something marketable.
Compared with A Ghost is Born, Yankee looks like a hitfest.
More feedback! Now songs that run over ten and eleven minutes! I can't really find anything redeeming to say about this album. I'll listen to it a few more times, but I don't think it's going to do it for me.
I miss the band that recorded Summerteeth. It doesn't look like they're ever coming back. I like the idea of avant-garde Wilco; I just don't want to actually listen to it.
I guess I'll have to pick up the Old 97's new album for some good old "alt.country."
