Blackstone Coming in 2K5

Macromedia's ColdFusion evangelist Ben Forta has completed his 22-city tour to demonstrate Blackstone, the codename for the next version of ColdFusion. Although I didn't get to see his presentation, I have read quite a few reports on it. It's refreshing to see how this new version is very focused on making it easy for developers to deliver visually compelling interfaces and to deliver functionality that was damn near impossible previously.

The aspects of the Blackstone release that have me the most excited are the ability to serialize CFC data across sessions (which should have been there in 6.1) and the new options for data reporting and printing - especially exporting to PDF and FlashPaper. On the server side, it also looks like there will be an administrator for multiple instance deployments. Muliti-instance deployments are an amazing feature of MX 6.1 but exceedingly difficult to implement successfully in their current implementation.

Blackstone is shaping up to be a very feature-rich offering, and Macromedia is being quite open about the development process. Macromedia has a ton of corporate blogs, including one from the ColdFusion Product Manager about Blackstone and one from their Director of Architecture.
