Yellow Doggin'

Tonight was a hotdog dinner to open the York County, SC 2004 campaign victory headquarters. The HQ is in an historic area of Rock Hill, in an old house now known as the Dog House, for Yellow Dog Democrats. Yellow Dog Democrats would sooner vote for a yellow dog than a Republican. Which is almost but not quite true for me personally, but it's good marketing.

Jen has been very instrumental in opening the HQ. She designed the York County Dems Yellow Dog logo and got the online store up and running. She's passionate and has definitely made her mark at the local level; I'm quite proud of what she's done.

The opening tonight was attended by well over a hundred, including U.S. Rep. John Spratt, who is one of the top leaders of the House of Representatives. I had never met a sitting Congressman before, so that was very cool. He's a very sharp man, and I can understand why he has held his position since 1982.

Between now and November, the Dog House will be a destination for debate, learning, reflection, study, and grassroots activity -- a shining blue beacon in a sea of mostly red.
