You Don't Bring Me Kara's Flowers

3 Comments In 1999, back when I used to listen to LaunchCast all the time, I got a recommendation for a powerpop band that was pretty good, Kara's Flowers. The name was a little off, but they sounded good. The strongest songs I heard over Launch were "Soap Disco" and "My Ocean Blue." Based on those, I bought their album The Fourth World, and I quite liked it. But I never heard anything else from or about that band.
Until last year, when I heard that they tweaked their lineup and changed their name to Maroon 5. They had a monster hit with "This Love," which I actually think is a pretty good song. They added some funk to their sound and abandoned their powerpop style.
Now, a lot of people who liked Kara's Flowers were apparently pretty pissed about this, but a band's gotta change or risk becoming a self caricature after a few years, and if they weren't feeling the powerpop thing anymore and thought they could make more money as a slightly funky rock band, more power to 'em.
Maybe some big Maroon 5 fan will want to buy my Kara's Flowers album off eBay someday for a tonna cash.

i kinda like maroon 5. it's a better name than kara's flowers. you know, the other songs i've heard on the maroon 5 album was almost on the jazzy/frank sinatra-y sounding end. that guy can sing like a mo-fo, though.
hee! mo-fo and though!
Why don't you listen to launchcast all the time now? Or do you?
I still listen to LaunchCast now and then, especially since it's now integrated into Yahoo Messenger. But I have found that Virgin Radio through iTunes actually gets closer to playing new music I want to discover than LaunchCast playing something I rated highly four years ago.
