Listen to the Band
Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 7:01PM A friend of a friend has invited me to sit in with his band for a couple of local shows. It's exciting, since I haven't played with a band in years. I've practiced with them twice in the last week, and will again on Thursday. Their songs are tight and melodic. I'm still at that point between trying to learn the chords and trying to come up with a decent part.
The 88-key Korg Triton Extreme is almost a deal-breaker, though. I basically cannot move it myself. I bought a case/bag for it last weekend, and that's helped only a little. I got the 88-key edition to get the weighted keys and because it was going to sit in my music room. That was the plan, anyway. Now that I'm practicing a couple of times a week and will be playing out at least twice, I'm being super-careful about making sure that it's taken care of (unlike my 1990 Korg M1 - R.I.P.). So the Extreme is a total bitch to move around in the 88-key version.
Playing with a band is also getting me more excited about writing again. It's just so tough to get the spark going. Right now, I am very focused on starting with melody, and letting the progression fall in as it may.
