Gone Campin'

1 Comment We're going camping this weekend. It's been over five years since I've been. But we're going, along with coworkers and sigs. It'll be car-camping at Black Forest campground near Brevard in western North Carolina - nothing too hardcore, just hiking and waterfalls.
Full report to follow.
9/15/2004 - The camping was pretty great. I can definitely see it becoming a more than once-every-seven-years type thing, as long as you go with people who know what the hell they are doing, as we did.

"Full report to follow" - that was nowhere NEAR a full report! I will fill in a few missing pieces. First of all I had to pee about four hundred times, so I was glad we weren't really roughin' it. There was a full campground washroom not too far from our tent area. It was pitch dark, so we had to carry a lantern the whole time at night to avoid tumbling down the gravel walkway or getting mauled by bears. The Boy Scout geniuses who were with us actually kept a marvelous fire going most of the time, so we cooked over it and a campstove.
Charlie and another guy played a bunch of fun rock and roll songs on their guitars, but the country music fans among us were not in the least impressed, so eventually they gave up. Honestly, what's so fun about Brad Paisley?
Due to the very recent torrential rains, the area's waterfalls were all at full gush. So we walked -- some of us huffed -- our way up paths to see several, only to be greeted at the tops of trails by uber-fit senior citizens and bouncy four-year-olds who made us feel out of shape and wimpy.
I would definitely do it again. Just not, you know, really soon.
