Panthers 2004 Kickoff

I can't help the fact that I am a huge fan of the Carolina Panthers. It may not fit with the liberal English major non-athlete thing I got going on, but the fact is, I have loved football ever since 1991 Tecmo Bowl took over entire floors of my college dorm and provided me a belated respect for the game. When the Panthers hit town in 1995, that changed absolutely everything. I've been lucky enough to attend about half of their home games, and I can see how people get so emotionally invested in the team.

After coming up just short in the Super Bowl last year, the Panthers look ready to rebound. But still getting not quite enough respect around the league is a great motivator. Steve Smith has a huge chip on his shoulder, and that's part of what makes him so good.

Tonight, it's the Favre and the Packers in town. It should be a good game!

UPDATE: Nope. Not a good game at all. Not so much. But MSNBC says not to write off the Panthers just yet. Hope they're right.
