Get Some Sleep
Friday, September 17, 2004 at 11:38AM I've been practicing with a local band, CLIFTON, playing keyboards and learning some originals in sort of a session capacity. Last night, I played out with them for the first time at the legendary Visulite Theatre. It was pretty cool to actually go backstage at a club where I have seen so many shows, I think I got a rock star buzz.
There was a decent crowd considering the rapidly deteriorating weather. The bands that opened were both exceptional. Joey Auch of New August performed solo. He has an amazing voice and effortlessly switched from acoustic guitar to keyboard. The songs were melodic and well-crafted.
The Sammeis were great too. Their music is hard to describe, sometimes echoing early Cure, sometimes sounding like Southern punk, but always loud and full of energy. I would definitely want to hear both of these artists again.
I got home from the show around two and had to get up at six, so I really want to catch up on some sleep. Can't do it tonight, though, as CLIFTON is playing again at the Cone auditorium at UNC Charlotte. It's fun being on stage again - I hadn't done that since college - but right now, I'm mostly looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.
Yeah, it's sad, but hey.
