Damn Right, It's a Hit

1 Comment It was probably about four years ago that Jen got onto a twee kick and started dowloading random twee tunes from MP3.com. She found this song called "The Frug" by this band Rilo Kiley which I tried to get into but could not.
Lo and behold, I cannot at this point get enough of "It's a Hit" (download here). It's one of those tunes that I have to listen to in its entirety whenever it comes on the iPod (that's actually pretty high praise from me, since I tend to FFWD a song after about a minute).
It's simple, with kind of a Velvet Undergroundish two chord thing, but epic at the same time, with some of the best lyrics I remember in a long time. It's also an anti-Bush song - it compares him to a monkey - which is pretty great, too. I'm not so sure on the meaning of the other couple of verses, but I love the song's arrangement, especially in the last verse with the bells matching the lyrics.
I'd like to hear some more songs from Rilo Kiley (besides "The Frug").

rilo kiley are on saddle creek records. they are friends of my friend becky. i've met them and seen them live once, and they are awesome. the name of their album is "The Excecution of Things" and it is very good. i think maybe you can go to the saddle creek website and download one or two of their songs. they're playing cat's cradle sometime next month, i think. anyway, i really like them, i'm glad you've heard of them.
