SMiLE

Today's the day that you can visit your local independent CD retailer (assuming you still have one), Amazon.com, or even a freakin' Wal-Mart and buy a copy of Brian Wilson's SMiLE! I've got mine.

We're going to see They Might Be Giants at the Orange Peel in Asheville tonight. The ride up should give me some time to soak it in.

Gary Krakow, who I usually read when he's talking about the new Game Boy or something, has a nice write-up on MSNBC about the recording.

From what I've heard so far, it's pretty different from Pet Sounds. Where Pet Sounds was basically gentle, SMiLE is more frenetic, and yet more playful. It's also more like a concept album than Pet Sounds...It's Pet Sounds turned to eleven! Brian sounds pretty good here, too. I tink he knows the material demands it. I can't wait to hear this thing played live.

When and where did you get SMiLE? I missed that!
Speaking as someone who grew up listening to the Beach Boys, and a rabid TMBG fan, I will have a very nice evening with you.
