Walking With A Ghost
Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 3:48PM My Old Kentucky Blog has posted live and studio versions of The White Stripes' new cover of Tegan and Sara's "Walking With A Ghost." The original version was itself available as a free download from iTunes some months back, which provided my first introduction to the sister duo. I've since picked up a few more of their songs, and their sounds has really grown on me.
As stereogum points out, it sounds like Jack White hits an F# instead of an F# minor in the first chord. I can't tell if he does it throughout the song, but it sure sounds weird. He does manage to hit the high notes, though, and the cover is in the same key as the original.
It also struck me funny that The White Stripes are covering such a new song. I suppose it's good publicity for Tegan and Sara. Maybe it's also some retribution for having "Fell In Love With A Girl" covered by Joss Stone so shortly after the original was released. We're heading for the day when we can expect covers to be released before originals.
