Go Ahead and Jump

Here's a nice bit of nostalgia that was sent my way today. Best with sound on.

Seeing these old video game screens, and then thinking of today's cut-scene-laden cinematic "gaming experiences" does make me wistful. Part of the appeal of Super Tecmo Bowl was that the graphics were so primitive that it really did feel like a game, where the latest Madden is more like watching a football game on television.

I'll be first in line to get a PS3, but I'm still a crumudgeon. In the endless attempt to simulate reality, today's video games have lost some of their fun and a lot of their charm.

Now you kids get off my lawn.
