ColdFusion 7 Exam

I just finished taking Macromedia's beta of the ColdFusion 7 certification exam, and I didn't do too well. When the CFMX exam came out, I took it and got a 90% after a couple days of studying. This one, I just took with no studying as it offered a significant discount on the actual exam when it is released. So that's my excuse.

Although I can't talk about any of the specific questions on the beta exam, I did see some things on the beta exam that had bugged me when I took the CFMX exam:

  • Too many questions based on a given example of bad code. If the examples use code that is bad practice or nonstandard, it reinforces and tacitly approves the code. Plus, the questions seem less legitimate if they are based upon a faulty premise.

  • Too many questions about obscure tags and attributes. There are some tags out there that nobody really uses. The exams love to focus on these tags and nitpick.

It's still a worthwhile thing to do.
