The Happiest Band in America

I was all set to see Green Day last night in Charlotte, but when I checked my junk Gmail account (where I subscribe to mailing lists from a few bands), I saw that The Mosquitos were playing in town last night as well. It was an easy decision. It would have been great to see Green Day on this tour, but they will be back around. Who knows when I'll have another chance to see a band like The Mosquitos here?
The crowd was small. The show was hastily scheduled and not very well publicized, plus there was that other show in town. But The Mosquitos put on a great performance, with their signature blend of indie rock and Brazillian bossa nova. Their combination of strong melodies, the Brazillian rhythm, and JuJu's energy and delivery is absolutely irresistable. The drummer and keyboard player had goofy grins the entire night, and it's easy to see why.
The Mosquitos aren't here to save the world or even rock and roll. But they are a great live show, full of fun and charm, and I'm glad they made it to my town.
