Camden Update: Week 7

Camden is now seven weeks old. She's over eight pounds and a string bean.

It's been a wild experience, and one that I certainly wasn't prepared for and couldn't prepare for. Seeing how everything in parenting is controversial - from breastfeeding (or not) to daycare to vaccinations (that last one is especially worrisome) has been an eye-opener. Parenting is a social minefield, and eventually, you just have to say "F what everyone else thinks. We're doing this our way." And that's what we're doing.

So yeah. It takes a lot of time to do anything. You have to plan every little move around when the next feeding will be, and when she will be getting cranky in anticipation of it. Simple things like a trip to Target require careful planning.

I'm sure I sound like every other parent - complain, complain, then "..but it's all worth it." Well it totally is. I feel a great sense of responsibility - like when I first got married, and I realized that some of my actions could actually have a profound effect on another human being. It's also deeply satisfying.

In the last week, she's started smiling and learning how to be happy. She's picking up more personality each week, and it's happening fast enough that you really feel a part of it. She likes to get baths. She makes eye contact. She smells great. And she's totally adorable.
