Jack White and Bredan Benson

Pitchfork is reporting that Jack White and Brendan Benson have formed a group called the Raconteurs, and will be releasing an album early next year. Benson says:

Some of it sounds like Jack and some of it just sounds like Cat Stevens or something.

This sounds extremely promising. I've become aware of Brendan Benson only in the last few months. His new album, The Alternative to Love, is very melodic, and has several outstanding tracks. "Pledge" sounds like the Ronettes (or Billy Joel's "Say Goodbye to Hollywood"). "Spit it Out" is good, and "I Feel Like Myself Again" is great. I'm curious to see how a more pop-oriented writer like Benson will mesh with the blues base of Jack White.

I haven't heard all of Get Behind Me Satan. It does sound more experimental, but "Blue Orchid" strikes me as crappy. As for the rest, I'll have to reserve judgement. Marimbas, huh?
