What In Du Bai Bai World of Ports is Going On Here?
Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 5:14PM Bush 43 can't catch a break. House Republicans today "declared war" on the Dubai Ports World deal in a 62-2 vote. Democrats are working to get a Senate vote. When both parties are united against you, Mr. President, you're only weakened further, you're hanging on to a political loser (believe me, Democrats know all about political losers). The fun part will be watching how long you'll cling to it, and it looks like you're daggum serious about using your first veto.
It's perverse to engage this situation for the political parlour when a real issue of national security is on the table, but hey. The President's staff hasn't been particularly successful in explaining exactly why the ownership transfer represents such a good deal for America.
Castigating the public for thier apprehension and stopping just short of accusing the public of racism and xenophobia doesn't seem like the right tack, but nor does saying that the American people would accept the deal if we just understood the facts of the situation.
The joys of globalization.
